  • sluggish starting when hot???

Hi all,I got another question when the bike cools down the bike fires right up but if I shut it off after a long ride its very sluggish starter drags but will start, the owner said it has always done that surley this is not normal and if I dont turn the fuel off the bike will flood....has anyone had the same problems or is this just the nature of the beast......
    have fun worry later...

    Hey Ninjazg,

As what mentioned in your previous post, corrosion on ALL of your electrical contacts can add up reducing the voltage/amp flow considerably. Cleaning them all, even in the headlight bucket, the fuseblock(even replacing it), all battery cables, GROUND cables, both engine to frame as well as battery can make a big difference in both charging and performance!

The slower turning engine when warm isn't necessarily normal, but increased heat can expand moving parts and make them not slide past each other as easily. But heat also develops resistance in wires, not allowing current to flow as well. Also you could have a weak battery!?

And your float needle valves are not sealing properly otherwise you wouldn't have the overflow when you stop! This could also contribute to flooding or overly rich condition when driving!

Didn't check to see what year/model you have, Special or Standard, the Octopus can be problematic on Specials, not to mention the hose routing.
Please Edit your signature or Profile Info to include year/model for future posts/requests for tech advice!!!

If you've had this leaking carb problem a while, then you may also have fuel contaminated oil, you'll want to check that out soon, so you don't burn up your engine, spin bearings, etc!!!
