I am new to these bikes. My 11 starts right up even after sitting over a week this time. No choke no nothing, just push the button and she starts. My old ones I had to choke. Is this normal? Runs fine after warmed up and gets good gas mileage. Thanks.

a properly adjusted carbureted engine should not start right up without choke when cold...you are either running to rich..or your carbs are dumping some fuel into intake while sitting ...how's your oil level look ..is it high..raw fuel can seep past the rings and into crankcase..i have to use choke..sometimes only half out .anytime my bike has sat over a few hours and that is the way carbureted engines are supposed to act stevo

That's how I felt. It must be dumping a little when sitting. I always have it on the center stand. It seems fine when running. If I try to start with the choke it will flood. It gets good mileage so I think it's not terrible. The oil level seems fine. Always about the same. It has about 5-600 miles on it.1979 XS1100F (runnin the wheels off it)

It has about 5-600 miles on it.
So, youv'e put 5-600 miles on it, or you have an XS with only 5-600 miles on it

Might not be a bad idea to pull carbs and bench test em.
See if float needle(s) leaking?!
I've got in-line fuel filters on mine. Only takes just one tiny partical of crud in the wrong place for em to leak

I've put about 600 miles on it. I figured I would do the carbs over the off season. I have done them once years ago on another bike. I'm abit nervous about it as I like the way it runs, but I know it could probably be better. I look forward to the generous knowledge here to get them straightened out.
Also, has anyone converted their taillights to LEDs to lower the draw on the system? I am thinking about it. I have the bags on the back with lights and they draw a bunch with the brake lights on.1979 XS1100F (runnin the wheels off it)

Hey Doug,
Better yet, just go to the Main Forum Page, then scroll down to the Tech Tips, under MODs, you'll find some on LED conversion for brakes and turn signals!
