  • Determining Value of XS1100LG

I'm in the process of purchasing a 1980 XS1100LG "Midnight Special" with 24,000 miles and I'd say it's in excellent condition for its age.

I'm looking for an approximate value so I can purchase it at a fair price. I also need to have it appraised for insurance purposes and don't know the best way to get that done.

    Your comments are appreciated.

    Your comments are appreciated

When you get it, let me know................
I'll PM you my addy so you may forward the MNS to me

    btw
have about $250.00 in my 80LG. It's not quite in one piece thou.

Hard to say w/o seeing the scoot. You may find parts are a little harder to come by than for the other XS's.

Running and looking good may not be unreasonable to pay $1,200.00 +, .....although I would not.

High Kelley Blue Book in my area is $1510.00.
As far as what it's worth is very subjective.
I paid $500 for mine and I only needed tires, a seat cover, and some elbow grease to clean it.
I think $1000 to $1500 would be fair (just my opinion). Less would be in your favor, more would be in "I really want it" territory and just makes mine more valuable.

Since my latest project bike is a mns I've been looking at pricing all over including ebay. By the way there is an 80 and 81 on ebay for sale now. An extremly nice one sold on ebay this early summer for about $2,300 in Davenport, Ia. I say it was nice because I was able to talk to the owner and was allowed to check it out in person. Does your potential mns have the stock exhaust system? If it does do a thorough check of the bottoms of the mufflers as they rot out and crack under neath. If you have a nice stock set they are worth quite a bit of money and, in my opinion, add extra value to the bike. Also take a good look at the black chrome quality on your parts. Very Very few places are able to do the black chrome process. I've found one out in California that I am going to check out yet this fall. There are so many things to look at from a mechanical and cosmetic point of view I could not begin to tell you what it is worth. Most importantly you need to factor in the value ($) for the personal satisfaction of owning a pretty "special " bike. If/when you get it bought, post some pictures. Good Luck!

If it is in great condition then I can easily believe that it is worth at least the listed KBB price. My wife bought a "fixer-upper" 80 LG that she is still working on for about 200$ but it needs many weeks of work and so far 200$ in parts and looking at another 400$ in ebay parts, tires, seat, header pipe, battery and more to get it running for liscense and inspection. The hardest part of all this like others have said is the availibility of parts, your pretty much at the mercy of chance, it makes finding a complete xs1100LG all the more important, and worth more.
-Still trying to figure out how to pack up the entire family of 5 on 1.5 bikes for a vacation.

KBB value and market value are two different things.
KBB retails the LG at $1500 but that would be a steal for a mint or near mint specimen.
That's why a baseball card that came in a pack of gum for 5 cents sells for a million dollars.
I paid $500 for my LG and I feel it was well worth more (tho I wouldn't have been able to afford it). This is why I've kept all the original parts in case I ever sell it. The exhaust from the bike is 95% perfect, that's why I replaced it with a 4>1 (eventually a 4>1>2) and am storing the original exhaust.
Same with my E. I have aquired everything to put the bike into cosmetically original condition. I still run it with the touring package most of the time.
Value is what it's worth to the buyer.

Prices for these bikes are on the climb due to an increase in popularity lately. I paid 2000 for my 79 XS11F which was for sure in the "Want it" zone but i do not regret it. I will not say how much I now have into this bike to make it look like it dose and I know I will never recover those dollars but I love the bike and it was not an investment so to speak.
I would be interested in knowing just how many running XS11s there still are in north America?
