  • xj1100 warning computer

I have recently rebuilt all my calipers and changed my pads and my master c and all brake light switches work. i was just wondering is there an idiot switch to turn the gall darn brk light off everytime i start my xj it would be nice to start it and go instead of waiting for it to cycle through to shut off the blinking warning light.

The XK brake light for the display is just a level sensor. Check the wiring and brake fluid levels.

The XJ has fluid level sensors in both master cylinders. Pull the top covers and you will see a float (looks like styrofoam) that slides up and down a small post; these are the sensors. The front one is very sensitive to even a small drop in fluid level; add a bit of fluid, replace the top and the light will probably go out. If not, check the rear m/c as well.

If all else fails, you can unplug the sensor wires and jump across them on the bike-side connector. This will bypass the sensors and the light should go off.

Okay took all given advice. just took off mc cap front and rear observer there was no smeg in there. poked at the float in the front and it works fine. and both brake light switches work as per usual. any other ideas. rear mc flushed recently bled both brakes. when i bought the bike the front brake switch was melted so i replaced it with another from the stealer and so far no luck with this issue. I just did the battery sensor eliminator and it came out very clean. but radio shack no longer carries 2k 1/2 watt resistors so i put 2 1k in series to do the job with a lil shrink wrap looks beautious.

          XJ1100 Warning Computer (brake)

Was there any followup on this?
I am going through the same scenario almost.

Do like I've done on my last 2 XJ's. Take the warning light out!
I've converted to LED signal, running and tail lights. Got rid of the unified braking. Took out the reserve lighting relay. Added a headlight modulator (home made) and as a result I have two malfunctions show. So out with the flashing light. The only thing I'm really concerned about is the fuel level.

                Thanks Isippell,

I'm not sure about JBY1999, the original poster's intent, but I am trying to stay stock on everything possible on this bike.

It had a few common problems that I have corrected with the help of this forum and now is functioning as it should except for the brake warning code. I examined, disconnected, and cleaned the complete wiring harness and every electrical connection including down into the instrument display monitor. I applied dielectric grease to all plugs and bullet connectors.

I reexamined all brake connections, topped off both brake resorvoirs and still get the brake warning code. I will now test the sensors.

Thanks Again, Any advice is appreciated.

You say the little floats are working fine. Try lifting it to the top of it's travel to confirm that the floats ability to turn the warning light off still works. Make sure the float moves freely at the top of its travel. Maybe it's hanging up near the top if the post was exposed to the air for an extended time frame.

There is a "Computerised Monitor Troubleshooting Manual" for the XJ1100 'warning computer'. Here's the pages relating to troubleshooting the brake warning light.
