      Triple Clean

      Hey TopCat ,

I did get the mains and needle jet out , cleaned the needle jet(emulsion tube) . One jet under the screw I could not get out .
Plus the tiny jets I did leave in as need the right screw driver .
I'll drill everything out if I have too !!!

Good to clear up the washer o-ring delemna up too!!
Back to the "Wash Board" will scrub it gooder ...
Maybe this time I'll seperate the carbs from the tree or whatever you call it . If I get the choke jets and throttle seals out I will let it soak??

Will keep you posted , I saw another several posts on guys having the same/similar problem I have.

I have an XJ100 service manual and the Carb section really is vague ...

      See ya Soon

Don't know how on this board?
type in "photobucket" in your address bar.
this is a free service for pictures.
        upload pics to there site.

below each picture you have uploaded there are three windows with info of the picture.

        Copy the bottom one. "IMG"

        Paste in your post here.
picture will appear in your post but will actually be just a pointer to your pic at photobucket.

recommend pics in jpeg and 640X480 pixel size. Larger and will need to side scroll etc. and for guys with dial-up will take longer for them to see your post.

you don't have to use photobucket, but you need to have a pointer to where the picture is stored.

            Carb update

Well , the saga continues ...

Bought a set of left hand drills and easy outs from Fastenall . Nice set . Had to use them on an air jet and two pilot jets that were stripped . This was so easy , just had to watch out to not go too deep ...

Am having a heck of a time with the screws on the butterflys . Rounded several out myself . Drilled one out but the bit wandered into the throttle shaft a tad ...Any ideas on what works for you ?? Thinking if I heat the screw with a soldering iron might make it easier to drill out ??

The two o-rings I have out so far look ok but very used . Want to dunk this in the can carb cleaner so need the butterflys out ...

Thanks for the tips so far , been reading a lot in this forum on carbs !!!

Udog, I think the butterfly screws are peened on from the back side. I ground off the end of the screw flush with the butterfly and then they came right out. Then I bought new screws.

When you put those new screws in, or even reuse the old screws, you might want to apply a wee dab of mid-grade loctite on them. You don't want these little guys coming loose and getting sucked into the motor.

                  Stubborn Screws

So far guess I've been lucky. Not had to drill out any screws on XS's. But have had problem screws on other things.

Impact tool works great, and there pretty cheep.
Think there's been a post here somewhere with pics of tool if you don't know what it is.

                      Re to the RE's !!

50 Gary , I should of ground the backs of the screws off first . I notice what your saying about being peened . I might of ruined a throttle shaft as I now have a small drilled hole to the side of the original hole ...May be able to get another shaft instead of having this drilled to the next size screw...

Ken , I'll get new screws and definetly put the loctite to it .
I bought stainless allen screws for the carb bowls , tops and the bar . Have lots of extra screws for the bar as had to buy 50 qty ...

                      Mro ,
I like the impact tool , you hit the end and they twist ...

Thanks for the comment on the photo's . When I first saw the bike it was dusty and I wasnt crazy about the yellow . Think original looks more nostalgic ...
But the yellow does look pretty good ...after all.

Will fight with the stripped butterfly screws , dremel the peens
                      Off .
What carbs can I swap the throttle shaft from , Anyone have a spare??

                      Will keep ya posted

Re: Re to the RE's !!

Bob, this is why I avoid the dunk tank if at all possible. It seems that you have to give it the gum-out spray and air dry treatment afterwords, anyway.

                          Blew a day parts hunting

I did want to replace all the throttle shaft seals , but this is getting to be frustrating . I cant find the butterfly screws locally .
Where can I get them ??

I ordered the throttle seals and float pins from my dealer ..
But looking for the throttle shaft , An air jet and two pilot jets .
Would like to know a good kit to get !!

Hope to revive this beast !!!

                              Bob,

You can get the screws from Boltdepot.com. They're 3mm, stainless, countersunk, socket head. Don't remember the length.
