  • Radial spoke Yamaha wheels on an XS11?

I'm wondering if the radial spoke cast wheels Yamaha used on several models in the early '80s will fit on my '79 XS11 standard? Has anyone tried this?

I'm talking about these wheels here:

The front wheels on both are 19 inch, right? The back wheels are different sizes, though. The XS11 standard is 17 inch, the Maxim is 16 inch. Is there a 17 inch that bolts right up?

Ah, excellent. I've just had a look in the photos and I can see which one you're talking about. So it is possible.

My bike is almost done at the shop where it's been for the past year. New engine, new brakes, new front forks and a bunch of other, smaller improvements. There isn't a component on the bike that hasn't been gone through. The engine, frame and forks have been painted black. I swapped out the tallish chrome handlebars for lower black units. I swapped out the rectangular instuments, headlight and turnsignals for the round ones from a donor XS11 Special. I'm holding off on painting the rest of the bike until I can locate a 6.3 gallon gas tank from the Venturer. Then I'll paint the bodywork and both fenders in Harley's Jade Sunglo Pearl from about 6 years ago. Harley used it on their blacked-out Night Train and it looked so beautiful, I'm using it as a basis for my bike.

I'm going to ride it as is for now, but when the winter hits, I plan on having my exhaust coated black, and I'll hopefully have the spiral cast wheels (with the polished parts painted Jade Sunglo Pearl for contrast) and the larger gas tank by then. Then I'll get it all painted and put back together. I've never put this much time or money into any motorcycle before, so I'm pretty excited. I'll be sure to post pictures when it's done.
