    Hi

I got 2 stripped out heads off of #1 and #2 pilot screws off a 1980 special and I dont have the testicluar fortitude to drill em out I see a lot of carbs on ebay 78,79s fairly cheap can I use the bodies from these carbs and install all my original jets from the two that are stripped out or do I have to run with the 80 '81 special carb bodies .
    thanks in Advance

      78 CARBS

I've got a set of 78 carbs that need rebuilding. PM me if you're interested. Other parts from a 78 available too.

        Ljay,

You can't use your 80 OEM jets in 78-79 carbs, considerably different sizes for mains especially! Aside from allowing for venting of the carb bodies, they are pretty much plug and play!

Hmm thanks, I guess that shot that idea all to heck
sure glad I asked before I buyed and tried.
Reason I dont really want to drill is I dont have have a backup set, and the carbs I do have actually run pretty good.and Im really scared to mess them up and end up with nuttin but junk I did read somewere that the 81 MNSpecials carbs have bigger jets and are little faster than the 80's so imagine I may try go that route if I can afford them, then get them running. then get out the drill
Man I hate that word! reminds me of the dentist!!
          Thanks for all your replys.

I believe the trick is to use a left-handed drill bit so that when it bites, it turns out the jet. But, I'll bet you already knew that.
