i have a 1983 xj1100 and would like to use a final drive out of an xs1100 would this be a problem,would it change my gearing any?

I don't know the part numbers for the '83 XJ, but was just assuming it was the same as the 82 made in the U.S. The parts show many different numbers for the XS final drives. Most of the XS back wheels are smaller than the XJ, but not all, so depending on the final drive you have (A couple from '81 showed the same number as the '82 XJ) it may or may not change your gearing. Not even sure about the bolt-up ability, but someone much smarter than me will probably answer.

Made a big difference. Mid drives are the same also.
