Gas Tank

I read the thread on the Mods page about the big gas tank. That sounds like too much work for me! Does any one know of another gas tank (bigger) that would fit my 81 xs1100 special?

And speaking of gas tanks; why do I have two switches for my gas tank? One on each side of the tank. And should I have it on 'ON' or 'PRIMARY'? What's the average range of a tank of gas?

You should have it on "ON", not "PRI"me. ON is for normal running, PRIme is for those times when the float bowls are empty of gas.... like the first startup in spring, or after you've removed and cleaned the carbs, or for that other time you miscalculate your remaing gas and the motor shuts off in embarrasment.

As for the fuel range, not 100% sure on that for the special, but you should get around 120-130 miles I would think. Of course, this depends a lot on how you ride too. If you're constantly twisting the right grip, just so you can have that silly grin plastered on your face, then expect your mileage to be a lot less.
