  • Popping in exhaust.

I want to buy some 180 (genuine Mikuni) air jets. I have 210 in my 1978e standard. Where can I buy these? Are they the same as a 180 fuel jet (small round) do these subsitute.
I'm getting a popping in the left (stock) exhaust. I have pod air filters and have removed the airbox.
Bike is coming out of hibernation (5 years) I've changed all fluids, chem dipped the carbs, new battery, etc. the usual drill. About the only thing I've yet to do is adjust the valves.
BTW, I did the pickup coil wire(s) fix two nights ago, thanks a lot for that information.

gar, simply unscrewing an idle screw another 2 or so turns often stops that popping sound, as usually it's just a lean idle causing it. It happens when you shut the throttle on decelaration no? Could also be an air-leak up by the header gaskets, but usually there's a 'clicking' sound then as well. A popping sound can also be dodgy spark caps/leads/plugs. Someone mentioned that the 'small round' main jets do fit the air pilot threads, but the stock air pilot jets are available anyway. Mikuni fuel jets are funneled outwards at the bottom unlike air jets but the difference is probably minimal if using them as air jets. No point in doing that though really, just use 180 air pilots if needed.

I'm going to buy new exhaust gaskets tomorrow, that was on the never ending list. That was part of my question though, where can I get the pilot air jets? Dennis Kirk or one of those mail order places? I usually dont have trouble locating parts I just may have missed the air jets. BTW, it will exhaust pop just on idle. I'm also going out right now and try the idle screw adjust. I'm at 1.74 turns out on all four carbs. Plus I need to test ride for the pickup coil wire fix, it was raining hard last night so no test ride then.
      Thanks for the reply.
