hello folks, small problem with my bike is no brake lights. Big Distraction is that my wiring on my brake light switch is not connected and I can't find the wiring to do so. In a PM to TC he was advising me that the wiring to the brake light was blue, hot when key on, (taillight) green yellow(brake light) black(ground) if I understand correctly. A green yellow wire goes to one side of the switch and a tan/amber wire goes to the other side. Hence, my problem. No green yellow wire, No tan amber wire, my yellow wire is probably the replacement for the green/yellow but I dont have a yellow to plug in at the switch. The rear brake switch itself has two black wires on it. No wiring visable to connect the switch up at all. I had replaced the alternator and spliced up the wiring but i never seen the wiring that clymers or TC was talking about. Is my 80 XS Special different than all the diagrams or did yamaha run out of wiring of that color that particular moment when my harness was made or what. Has anybody else experinced the same thing. Any help would be appreciated. I am going crazy, I need someone to walk me through this I guess.

front or rear?
are you talking front brake light switch or rear BLS. I had problems when working on one of my bikes because the ***WIRING COLORS ARE DIFFERENT ON DIFFERENT MODELS***. i KNOW THAT THE HANDLEBAR SWITCHES HAVE DIFF. WIRE COLORS IN DIFF. XS MODELS. (not to mention, P/O could have swapped controls).I had to look at the clymers elec. schematics and decipher what went where when the controls were swapped.MDRNF
