Thanx for the advice about the rear box Yamarider I will be sure to keep an eye on it. and you were right taking the lowers off has made a big difference.
As for how I got the bike I was just browsing the bargain finder on line last summer looking for something a bit bigger than my little suzuki GR650.

It's a great little bike and was a great machine to get back into riding on after an almost 30 year absence but at 280LB I kind of look like a bear on a tricycle riding around on it. So I was browsing the adds on line and saw the 1100 for sale at the time I wasn't really looking for a full dresser so I didn't call. About a month later still not having found quite what I was looking for I noticed that it was still listed of course when browsing the on line bargain finder you kind of expect to see adds long after bikes are sold.

I couple of weeks later I bought the a bargain finder and found that it was still listed so I figured it must be a sign. I called the owner went down and took a look at it from what the PO said it was his 17 yr old nephews bike but as he was about 5'7" and 130LB soaking wet he found the bike to be more than he could handle so I picked it up and an extra tail box (missing lid) and a big rubber maid bin full of parts for $1100. All I had to do to get it on the road was fix a broken wire to one of the signal lights.

Wow Orion!! I have personally come across some good deals in my days, but yours is the best deal I have heard of yet! $1100 for that beautiful XS is truly a dream, especially since you didn't have to do anything major to it initally. Rest assured you have aquired a very dependable machine. And in the event you should have any problems, the folks on this forum will help get you where you need to be.

Is this your first Yamaha? About how long is the riding season where you are at?

Thanks yamarider thanks to the forum I have already replaced the fuse block with the blades style and put an led tail light on it.

Its not my first Yamaha if you count the 78 340 enticer snowmobile this is my 4th I have had the enticer a 78 IT 175 and a 76 RD 400. My first motorcycle was a 1976 indian 175 (built by a scooter company in spain trying to take advantage of the name if I remember correctly.)

As for riding season if normally its from about April to october or november(depends on when it snows). around here as long as th roads a clear of ice and snow we ride.

                    Dat's true,

BUT there are "cross over" parts that he has that do fit the XS1100.

Does not have the turn signals your looking for.

There are some after market reqtangular signals w/stems available (not sure where) but have heard that they are junk but have not tried them myself.
