I've been reading up on the site about the octopus valves (mines leaking), but I can't seem to find a straight answer on where to get a rebuild kit, or wether or not a guy should just bypass it. I'd rather rebuild it then bypass it, so if anyone knows of a place to get a rebuild kit for the petcocks and octopus at a decent price please let me know.

I can't seem to find a vacuum diaphram valve at old bike barn or partsnmore.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Bypass it. Follow the directions found in your reading here and no problems.

      bypass it

Thanks, I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not as it seems to be a topic of much debate.

My XS11 had fuel valve bypass surgery, and is fine!

        Hey Tibo,

You can still get a replacement COMPLETE VALVE assembly from Bike Bandit for $55.00!

All of the carb kits for Specials I've found or seen say that they DON'T come with the square plastic valve spacer piece?? There is a square plastic spacer in the middle of the Octy, but it's the rubber diaphragm that provides the seal.

This is why many folks have opted to bypass it. The petcocks will turn off the fuel, so that if your float valves don't seal properly, you won't have gas in your oil, IF your petcocks are not leaking!

Also, just need to remember to turn off your petcocks when you park!

Thanks, but for $55.00 I think I can handle shutting my petcocks off when I park.
