I want to replace the brushes on my XJ11 but I dont quite know where they are. Can anyone help, I have 78,000 miles on my bike and I dont think they've ever been changed which may account for my charging problem. But anyway, any help anyone can provide will be greatly apreciated. Thanx alot.

.. the brushes are under the right cover[sitting on the bike] on the end of the crank. it says YIKES on it. if replacing the brushes does not solve your problem, let us know and we can help you find it. we have some very good electrical Gods here.

.. it is under the cover #12 in the picture, both of the crank end covers say YIKES on them.

..the parts you are looking for are #5 and #6 in the next picture.
the part numbers are 4G0-81611-10-00 and 4G0-81612-10-00. i think the brushes are attached to the inside of the cover.
        good luck

Getting just the one gasket might be tough. You'll probably need to buy a small piece of gasket material and make your own.

Thanx to all for helping. I took her all apart yesteday, cleaned the brushes and the rotor and low and behold she started running beautifully. Took her out last night and didnt want to come home. Now the only thing not working is the Speedometer and speedo light, and the hazard lights. Hey, at least I can ride her though. I am not new to riding but I am new to the XJs and I have to say this is a great site here. Thanks again for all your help.

The cover says YIKES on it because if you accidently leave the ignition key on when you take this apart, that is what comes out of your mouth when that jolt of electricity runs through your fingers!
