Thanks for this. I'm still wondering how the numbering worked. For instance, my serial number is 3H3 010116. If the numbers started at 000101 then what does the second digit mean? Was this the 116th off the line (ignoring unused serial numbers)?

10,015th off the line for the 1979 Special
      is my guess.

      (10116 minus 101)

That makes sense. I was just reading about how some sequences started with 101 instead of 100.... *shrug*

We had 2 V-Stars in our parking garage here at work. They looked identical. I looked at the serial numbers and they were 2 numbers off (xxxxxxxx2401 & xxxxxxxx2403). They'd followed each other from the factory and were parked next to each other. They both belonged to employees.
My MNS ia 000756 so (if I'm guessing right) it's #746 for 1980, a few after yours Gerard.
My E (made 11/77) was the 6,136th. They were crankn' em out.

-I just love the look on their faces when you leave them standing in the dust after they've lined you up on your XS.
