Pardon me if this has been answered. I rode the bike today after doing the pickup coil wire repair. It ran smooth like it used to, but sputtered when trying to accellerate. I switched the petcocks from on to reserve and it took off like a rocket. It has gas in it. It started this right before I did the coil repair. the coil repair solved the cylinders dropping out. Do I need to rebuild the percocks? I had already replaced the vacuum lines to the petcocks as they were looking old and hard. Thanks for your help. These are great bikes.

XS1100F petcock question

I pulled the petcocks once and found them full of gas. I mean above the strainers! I am not sure what causes the surface tension, but it could cause then to starve the carbies. I little blast of gumout cured them!Skids (Sid Hansen)
Down to one 1978 E. Stock air box with K&N filter, 81H pipes and carbs, 8500 feet elevation.

remove and carb clean them
I had that problem before with caked-up crud clogging the petcock filter. You can remove the filter and put a larger in-line filter on both fuel lines...just a thoughtMDRNF
