  • Spark Plug Boots / Wires

I noticed that there is a gap ( a wide crack) in one of my spark plug boots. The weather being dry, I've not noticed any missing or performance fall-off. I'm wondering if some RTP silicone and a hose clamp (to close the gap) are an adequate fix. Should I just replace the spark plug wires and boots alltogether?

Go get a new cap! Don't waste RTV on it. The wires are not easily replacable as they are integrated into the coils.

Ralph - are you talking about the whole boot itself, or that black "ring" that fits on the end of the boot? If it's the "ring", you can pretty much take it off and not worry about it. If it is the whole boot, you can get new ones at any auto store, but what may happen is when you cut the plug wire to fit on the new boot, the wire may be rendered too short to reach the plug and then you have a problem, so be sure to check your wire length first!

The wire caps screw off the old wire. It's possible to put a new end on without cutting the wire. Seal it with dialectric grease when you put on the new cap. Worked for me when I put the old ends back on new wires.
