This is my first bike so I thought I'd ask about this as I am not for sure. From time to time I have problems getting my bike to shift. 97% of the time it is only from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 1st and only when sitting still say at a stop sign. Every once in a while I'll have the same problem shifting but, from higher gears down to lower ones this also only happens when i'm sitting still. Anybody have any suggestions as to why?

Look at the tech tips and check the "clutch adjustments".
Adjust the clutch, then the hand lever.

Mike's probably right, especially IF it's really only happening when you're sitting still! But if you also have trouble downshifting while it's moving then, read these threads.
