I bought my XS1100F about a month ago. Been riding bikes for 25 years. I found the forum recently and have read some great info. I just repaired one of the pickup coils. Both had been previously repaired poorly. My original problem was a vibration at 4500 that I can make go away by accelerating or decelerating just a bit. The bike has gotten 43 MPG for two tanks so far. I think it is a great bike, I just want to get the little things fixed up. I appreciate all of the help I can get. Thanks.

BTW, the bike has a Kerker exhaust and K&N Air filter. The previous owner said it had been rejetted for these modifications.

    Doug,

A valve adjustment and carb synch should smooth it out.

Check your isolation system for the exhaust system. Any metal-to-metal contact can cause vibration. Original systems had rubber isolators.

The standards have a vibration at about 4500 RPM. This is the harmonics of the machine, and it will be there. In '79, when the bike was built, the national speed limit was 55, and that was about 3750 RPM. You didn't get much vibration then, and only do now because of running in the harmonic zone.
As Randy said, get the valves adjusted and the carbs synched, and it will reduce the vibration. I would also check the middle and final drive oil level. If you don't know the last time the oil wa schanged, change it!
Welcome to the site, and enjoy the ride.
As for the Kirker, that's what I run on "Daily Ride", and I like it. I don't have it isolated, and the vibration isn't bad.
