  • HELP with my rear brakes...

I have an XJ1100J and was riding about a month ago when the rear brake seized up. I trailered the bike home and have been trying to get a rebuild kit ever since.

There's a place called Cycle Empire here in town that said they could order it but I've now called them 5 times and each time I hear about how his supplier isn't getting back to him, that he'll call back when he finds out what's going on, then I get no call back.

Does anyone have a place I could get the rebuild kit or am I screwed?

Well, if you are looking for the seal kit, Yamaha still sells them. Part number is 2G2-W0047-00-00. Zanotti motors has the kit for $20.18. I think this includes the ring for the piston and the clip that holds the dust boot in place. Piston assembly, which includes the dust boot, is no longer available from Yamaha. Piston assembly part number is / was 2G2-W0057-00-00.

Maybe you don't need a rebuild kit. If by "the rear brake seized up." you mean the pistion stuck out, it might just need to be dissasembled and cleaned. Very common problem is the brake fluid return hole, or "spooge hole", being plugged. Try releasing the pressure via the bleeder screw. If the wheel turns freely, you know the brakes are released, and the return hole is your problem. Check in the Tech Tips here for more info: Master cylinder spooge holes

I have to agree with Brian. My XS did this very same thing. To make a long story short, I ended up drilling out the "return hole" in the master cylinder because it was plugged for some reason or another. No amount of bleeding will solve this problem.
