  • Mikes XS Coils

My 80 GS needs new plug wires. I'm doing the wire change per the tech tips. Just in case the coils don't survive the changeover, what can anyone tell me about the coils Mikes XS sells. Will they work on an 80? What about the balast resistor?

    YES, YES, YES

    Hey PopRock,

Here's the thread I posted regarding them:Alternate Coil Replacements

Just like if you were to put on ACCEL ($$) coils, you would just bypass the Resistor, that's it!

      ignition coils

Thanks for the comeback, TC. New plug wires are installed on the old coils and they go back on today. If the bike runs, I'm good for a while. It's nice to know these 650 parts are available and that they work.

        they work great

put them on my 80sg last year. no problems installing at all - bolted right in place. I made a set of splice wires to make the connection from the harness connectors to the spade connectors on the new coils - cut the wires off an old set of coils and put the spade connectors on the cut end.

          ciol rehab

Thank you TC and Hawkins. For now it looks like the tech tip on replacing the wires is working. Kong has never sounded so good. I am delighted to have the info on the Mike's coils as a backup.
