This is on a 79 SF but the moutnting should be pretty close to the same. This mount has been installed since 1980 minus having to remove it a few times for maint. Hope this helps.

I have Vetter bags on my 78E and the mount is mounted exactly as the what you see in the pictures. Just a little FYI, don't ask how I know this, but after you get the them mounted be sure the key is in the locked position Before you drive. They make a really awful sound sliding down the road behind you.

I have the bags also but mine do not have a lock on them. Only the prong (for lack of a better word) that clips into the braket. Could you post a picture of the lock you are talking about? I have secured mine with a hitch pin spring clip.

here is a picture of the lock from the key side
you can see that it mounts just below the pin

this is from the other side, sorry about the blurring
but you can see that there is a rectangular piece on the end of the lock that spreads the clips apart

            and

this is with the bracket in place

            hope these come out ok

They're displaying now. Next time, you might want to resize one like your first image to 640x480

When you've got your photos displaying in Photobocket, don't use the viewer webpage url to paste into the image tags. Instead, right click in the middle of the photo to get the url of just the photo itself, not the whole web page displaying it. Each of you images has 'direct' in the url rather than 'viewer'. That's what messed you up.
