    Tank repair

    When I got my XJ a couple of years ago and rebuilt it I found out the tank was almost rusted through in several places.
    I cut the bad places out and welded new pieces of sheetmetal in. In places that there were just a lot of pitted places on the outside I used a brazing rod and flowed it into them.

      I'll have an "extra" '79 tank in about three months. If you can patch yours until then, I'll ship my old one to you. It has been repaired, and needs paint, but is sound. I soldered up the "holes" from a slide hammer, and it no longer leaks. I'll be replacing it with a tank I'm repainting, so it will be available. It is a standard, 5.2 gal tank. I'm just using it until then.
      It's on daily ride at the moment, so it gets filled every other day!!
