Hello Everyone...Finally got around to working on the MNS. After assembling the carbs from scratch, she is running. I am very close to running perfect. Revs really strong without miss and pulls good without miss which I would expect with only 4,000 original miles!

Problem: 1) she poots and pops a little every now and then at idle in neutral; 2) at times, when reving the motor in neutral, it takes a couple of seconds to return to idle and sometimes longer

Could it be that the carbs need synch'ng, new plugs and/or wires? air/fuel mixture set (still has the caps installed)?

Going to get tags today as I am READY to ride her like I stole her. Well, almost anyway, as the bike was given to me!!

    Yes, sync the carbs
Plugs should be good but you will need to check them
How did you clean the carbs if the caps are still installed
Make sure all vacume lines are good
Check the intake boots for leakage by spraying wd40 on them while it is running. If speed changes they are leaking.

    1) Sync the carbs
    2) Adjust the throttle cable, check to see if the end is set properly at the carb end, also no binding.

Sounds like your real close, have a ball.

There's always a way, figure it out.

.. sounds like an intake leak. with the engine idling spray some break cleaner around the intake manifolds, if it revs up or wants to die then you have found it.
      good luck

If everything else is right, perhaps your idle mixture is on the lean side. If you blip the throttle and it takes a few seconds to return to normal idle, this may be your problem. I know I had this on my 79 Special but then I also have a 4-1 header installed.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.
