  • Tires.... quick Q

Okay, so I'm over at Bike bandit looking at tires, specifiaclly for a rear for my 81. Original specs says it's a 4.50 17" Bridgestone. Easy enough. There's a pretty much brand new Continental on the front that I'd like to match except I have no Idea of wtf the cryptic tire size is (note I'm at work and don't have the old tire in front of me... and I'm not looking for a manufacturer discussion) Just wondring if this: Continental "Conti Blitiz-Standard/Sport Cruiser" would fit.

What the hell do the friggin # mean?

I know on my tires, it's an MT90/17.
The "T" is the with, 90 is the aspect ratio, 17 the rim size in inches. I don't know what the M means.
The thing to watch for is the load limit of the tire. the same size tire, built one way, has a limit of 700 pounds, and built another way, have a load limit of 900 pounds. The weight figures are NOT accurate, just for example. You want a "heavy load" tire for the XS1100.

I just a little more digging and found a Continental 4.50-17 to match. Thanks-
