anyone know how to change one out? i think the problem i am having is the main gear is striped or loose. but i dunno.

also is the clutch retaining nut standard thread or reverse thread?

Hate to tell ya this...but if it's your starter clutch (pray it is not)...you have to pull the motor and split the cases.

Had one go out on an XJ750 couple years ago. I didn't touch it. I took it to my mechanic and the 'ol "grunt and point".

      Hey Jeremy,

Regrettably, it's a bit of a pain to replace the starter clutch parts, you have to split the cases! Are you sure it's your starter clutch? Have you changed the oil and used synthetic? Is it still rather cold where you are, does the bike sit in an uncontrolled environment so that it gets very cold? What are the symptoms?

The clutch nut is standard right hand thread since the shaft turns counterclockwise when looking at it from the clutch side!
