  • Igniter box failures

My 'XS1100 Special ate its igniter box. I have another one to use, but am hesistant since its also 25 years old. Is there an aftermarket alternative? Or maybe a company that rebuilds the old ones? Is this a known weak point in the bike? Any information appreciated.

There is a list member, Randy Rago, who has successfully rebuilt the TCI box for the XS. Do a search for TCI and I'm sure you will come across his post on it.

I'm sure he will reply to this eventually.. think he's at the West Virginia rally this weekend.

The unit itself is not a "known weak point" but along with everything else, they become tired after 25 or so years. They are very prone to cold solder joints, so that is one place to check if you are familiar with electronics at all. Where the contacts from the plug solder onto the board in particular. If not, wait for Randy to chime in here.

Two HEI modules have been used in place of the ignitor box on an XS11 (Not the XJ).

A gent on this board just had infomation posted about his sometime either this month or last month. Do a search for HEI.
