The new motor has an oil pressure gauge. What kind of readings should I expect?
Right now I get aprox. 40 psi at highway speeds, but it drops to 0 at stoplights. The idiot light does not come on though. Maybe the guage is defective?

First bike was an: 1978 XS1100
    Second bike is an FJR1300.
    Now I'm restoring a '79 XS1100.

The gauge I added to my E ranges from 10 to 50 depending on RPM, temp, etc.

Thinking of adding a gsuge to my 78E. Where did you install the pickup?

I removed the oil pressure sender. Installed a "T" fitting. Reinstalled the stock sender and the new sender. I used the electronic type instead of the mechanical type. I didn't want a tube of pressurized oil snaking all around the bike. The sender wire and light wires are connected to the fairing wiring connector. This way there is no XStra work involved when I remove the fairing.
