paint code

hope am doing this right. I need a paint code for a 1100 Midnight Special. VIN says 79, and ownership says 80. It is black and we just want to spray the tank, therefore need the paintcode to get a match. Thoughts? Thanks.

if theres no metallic in it you wont need a code any pure black should match if it has metallics then you can take it to most large paint suppliers they can do a color scan and get a very close match

Could be wrong, but MNS first came out in 80' and should start with "4H3"-XXXXXXX

Specials, in 79' "3H3" something?!

MNS, (80LG) has "gold" rims/air box/carb tops etc.. and chrome "MNS" emblem on side covers.

My tank is just glossy black, but several other items seem to be semi-gloss.

Thank you for the replies. We will look into the color scan thing. We are pretty rural here, so not sure if that is available.

This has all the gold trims. Really pretty looking and in great shape. Will have to look later for the MSN emblem on the side cover. I don't remember it, but maybe it is there. Bike is over at the our garage and will be there later today.

We are fixing it up for resale. One of my good friends wants it. I have already pointed him to this group. (I ride a smaller bike.)

The actual paint code is 6G. It was known as New Yamaha Black when the 80 LG Midnight hit the market. I don't endorse this company and the paint price is comparable to most quality automotive paints these days. The name of the company is Color Rite. I bougt the paint from them and was able to repaint my tank, and fenders and the color was a right on match for what I had. Of course they seel the clearcoat as well. I restore 79 xs 11 specials. If your tank has gold metallic in it I have the paint code. Just finished painting (2) tanks and (2) sets of side covers. If you are looking for Midnight tank/side cover emblems. Get ahold of Ole to see if he has some "refurbished" ones. Ole at Ole@OlesClassicMotorcycles.com By the way Ole has a couple of his restored XS's on ebay now. They are nice!

The Midnights did not have gold metallic in them. They were all painted with the New Yamaha Black.
