  • New to XS1100s - Just picked up 2 of them!

Hey guys, Just picked up a couple of old xs1100's today. Dragged them out of the woods from behind a guys house where they have been sitting for several years.

I'm new to the boards as of 5 minutes ago and just wanted to say hi and post a couple pics of the bikes I got.

    1980 XS1100
This one hasn't been on the road for almost 10 years. Has 27000 miles on it. It's complete and in pretty good shape. A lot of oxidation on the motor and shocks but otherwise will be a decent bike.

    1979 XS1100
This one was in a low speed low side accident about 2 years ago and has been sitting since. I have the seat but am missing the side covers. The bike has 13,000 miles and should clean up real nice. Hideous exhaust!!!

I'm looking forward to getting both of these running. I'm going to start with the brakes tomorrow because all of them are locked up a bit. Then I'll move on to the carbs. Certainly a lot of work ahead, but I should have them cruising around in not too long.
..... I'll just skip to the Baja part.

              WOW.

Seriously, I thought I was ambitious - two bikes, and LOADS of work between them....

It's gonna be fun! Good luck dude, keep us posted on the progress.

Oh, and as for that exhaust: what the hell does it SOUND like????

The second bike.... looking atthe see-through fuse panel. Just wondering what kind of electrical problems may be ahead for it.

OK... leave it to me to be the nosey rude one... lol. What'd ya have to give for them??

                Good luck and great find!!

Thanks for the responses guys! I picked up both bikes for 400 clams, a good deal in my book, especially since they both have clean titles.

I gave the green one a complete brake job yesterday cleaned it up a bit and tore into the carbs. I have 1 slow jet and 1 choke jet that are still clogged up, but once I free those up today I plan to be on the road with it this afternoon.

I hope to be moving on to the black one tomorrow - but who knows, things always wind up taking longer than I had planned.
..... I'll just skip to the Baja part.

wow, that is one heckuva deal!

As for only giving 'er a brake job and a carb workover, I'd be wary of the tires and also of the wheel bearings - my rear wheel bearings were so bad they had trouble balancing my new tire. (yeah, I took the wheels in for that - figured one less thing to do myself without the proper gear)

                        good luck man, ride safe.
