  • No Top End

I have a 1980 XS1100 Special the bike is running good but I dont have any top end after 80 mph. I recently replaced my pickup coil and the one I installed was off an older XS1100 and it doesnt have the timing advance that my original one had could that be the problem.

    Thank You
    Todd Miller

      Hey Randy, and Todd,

I think a little confusion has occured here. Todd, you say you put a pickup coil assembly from a machine that did NOT have the vacuum advance module on it, and you used that PU coil in your machine which STILL HAS the vacuum advance unit!?

The XJ11, 82-84 used the PU coils but did not have either the centrifugal or vacuum advance module under the left timing cover!

The XS11's from your year and earlier ALL have both Cent. and Vacuum advance components under the timing cover! So...not sure what or where you got PU coils from an "OLDER" XS11 that didn't have the timing advance??

Did you replace just 1 PU coil, or did you replace the entire PU coil assembly, plate and all? You may have gotten some from an XJ, and somehow got them into your XS?

        PICK UP COIL PROBLEMS

        Randy

I put my original pickup coil assembly back on the bike there wasnt anything wrong with it now the bike runs better then it ever has.

        Thanks for your help: Todd

        T.C.

I had replaced the complete pickup coil assembly and was sold the wrong one but I have the correct one now and the bike runs great.

        Thanks: Todd
