I am thinking about replacing my 1980 XS1100 Special with a newer road star 1600. It is all original except for a travelcade seat which was installed at the dealer and a windshield. A family friend is the original owner and the bike only has 13,104 miles on it. It has never been laid down and it runs great and has been garaged. The Yamaha dealer says it is worth $1300 because of the year but I think that is a little low....

Actually, that's probably about right. I think I've seen on here recently that blue book is only around 1000.
Sentimental value can be hard to gauge. I wouldn't take 3 times that for mine, but it's definately not worth it from a real-world perspective.80 XS1100SG

1980 SG price
The local dealer has a naked 81 SG (red) with crazed paint and no oil in the sight glass when we first saw it. One owner bike, 18000 miles, decent tires, stock exhaust, etc. Chrome and aluminum nice and shiney. He's asking $2995. Did I mention he always seems optomistic?1980 XS 11 Special: The King of Kong, 9th wonder of the world. Pacifico fairing, chopped shield, Yamaha hard bags, Diamond seat, T-Kat fork brace, XJ top end, YICS Eliminator, '80 carbs from Spyder Cycle Works, K&N Air filter, Fuse block, stainless steel valves & reg/rect from Oregon MC Parts. Raptor CCT, XJ air shocks, 850 FD, Sportster mufflers, Standard handle bar, Tusk Bar Risers, SS braided brake lines. Cat Eye speedometer. HID projector beam headlight, LED running lights.

Hi, I bought my 80 standard last year and paid 1,350 for it at a new bike dealer, the previous owner upgraded to a Roadstar as well, The dealer is prabably close, but exceptionally low miles will raise the value some, when i checked the value last year retail was right around that number, you can get it online at http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/ke.kb.sz?kbb&&&zip;5419;mc which is kellybluebook and you can get a tradein or retail value of motorcycles, well anyway good luck with your new bike if you go for it,,,,,,,,or do what i did to mine, new wide whitewall tires, custom fit 03 hardly davidson rear fender, customized flush mounted taillight with super brite led bulbs, fresh coat of purple metalic paint and custom made a front fender using a plastic seca fender and fiberglassed side skirts for that hardly davidson style with all the reliability and performance if the mighty xs1100, anyway,,,,,,Hope the link helps you.............

custom 80G?
Hi Dave
Can't go and spout about your bike like that w/o posting a pic
Like to see how it looks.
mro
btw
The real value of an XS (or anything else) is what someone is willing to pay. Why else do those guys pay 20/30K for a Harley?
Have herd of XS's going for $2,500.00, super rare ones going for over $10,000.00, our like my 80G for about $350.00 Had 11,000 miles on it when I got it and didn't run.
Most running bikes seem to be going for $700.00 to $1,500.00 which goes back to what one is willing to pay

I paid $200 for my '80 SG w faring & hard bags.
However, saying it is "a little behind in maintenance" is an understatement.
I currently have a frame w engine/tranny installed sitting on a jack. Everything else is scattered around my garage. By the time I'm done, I'll have >$1000 in restoration (including some new tools like the MC jack, color tune, vacuum gage & feeler gage...)
If your sure this one is ready to roll, then about $1300 is likely about the right ball park. If it needs a lot of maintenance catchup (bearings packed, tires, seals, dust caps, carb rebuild, brake hoses, calipers, etc...) then I'd double think the $$$.
