How do you adjust the timing plate on an 80SG? The Clymer book shows phillips head screws but my bike has something different. I've never seen these before. They are sunk down inside a small cylinder. How do I loosen them? I wish I had a picture to post.

You have the OEM, installed at the factory screws. They are designed to have the heads shear off, leaving what you see, after the proper torque is attained. To remove them, they must be drilled, and a screw extractor used to remove them. If you don't have to remove the timing plate, then leave them alone. The timing is preset at the factory.

I did this on my SG and found you don't need to drill out those timing plate bolts, they aren't fastened that tight. So a few anticlockwise knocks with a narrow punch was all in needed to loosen them.Brian
