    clutch slip in 3rd

    Hey Guy's!anybody got any ideas why my old xj11 clutch would slip at around 5 grand ,but only seems to do it in third!....can hammer it in first and second,..checked and rebuilt clutch, everything within specs....

    Oil too slippery? apparently it can be.

      Try it on a section of up hill freeway in 5th. Crank it wide open and if it slips, it's time to tear into it again.

      It's typical for a clutch to slip in the higher grears when something is wrong. Odds are you're putting more torque on it in 3'rd than the higher grears.

        apparently the friction plates get glazed if it's been slipping, so that could be it,..will have to get some new ones of ebay i guess, there's a bloke in ontario sells them new ?old stock..

          If they are glazed try rubbing them over with fine wet & dry.
          Do a search on here there has been loads written about clutches.
