  • saddle bag idea

I have access to a set of '86 Goldwing bags ana trunk, and was thinking on how or if I could retrofit them onto my XJ. I would have to change my exhaust from original because the mufflers are too shortand angle up too far, but I think it can be done.

What is the opinion of the forum?

Should be able to do it. you may have to fab your own brackets, though.

I had a similar idea a while back (before I got my XS bags and luggage rack. Still have to find a Goldwing or even Harley tourpak to retrofit on.

You should be able to get some big bucks for your OEM exhaust if it is in good shape. XJ pipes are very hard to find.

OK, I have the bags and frames off of the Wing and just dry fitting everything seems to be a very close if not direct fit. I have to take my mufflers off to completely try fitting everything on.

I will be removing my tail fender and replacing it with the one from the wing and we shall see what happens. The big thing will be figuring out the wiring, the stinkin' PO of the wing hacked up all the harnesses and I will have to rewire the bags and trunk.

I will try to get Pics of the process and post if anybody is interested in the project.
