  • 79 xs 1100 special and 81 mns forks?

Will the forks from a 80 or 81 midnight special fit on a 79 xs 1100 special?

  • #2
    They should.
You can do a search on the Yamaha USA web site, go to the parts, and check the part number for the fork TUBES, not the sliders. If the tubes are the same part number, they should work fine. The sliders will have a different number because of the color, so it will be harder to tell if they work.

The fork tubes are the same for '79, '80 and '81 Specials (including the Midnights).

          Suggest you read this thread:

          http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ght=fork+seals

XS 11 forks are not identical, there are difference in length. Also, some fork seals are 1mm larger in size - leading forks vs though-the-fork design.

Forks are interchangeable as sets, but read the thread to get the details.

            Jerry,
Pit-fighter was talking special to specail on the forks, so I didn't want to confuse him.
Had he said something about a standard to specail, I probably would have pointed out the differences.
