  • Parts INSANITY!!!!!!

OK, so partsnmore.com won't return my emails asking them to file a claim with fedex about my missing package, fedex won't call me back (I've called them three times), and I can't find ANY other websites with exactly what I'm looking for. I'm ripping my hair out over this, and I NEED my bike running this weekend - worst come to worst, I'm duct taping a rag over the openings to my carbs as a DIY air filter, and using the gunky crappy original parts that are bound to leak.

...but so far I've had GREAT luck with mikesxs.com, I'm just not sure if they have what I need.

    Here's what I need:

pod style air filters (mikes has 52mm, but they're oval, I think they should probably work fine.

float bowl gaskets: again, mikes has float bowl gaskets, but I'm not 100% sure they'll fit my carbs.

Carb Float Valve Needle and seat: again, mikes has these, but in two different ones, and I can't for the life of me figure out which to buy! agh! There's ONE rebuild kit that seems to have everything I need for the carbs, but I can't tell if it's the right one. *sigh* any ideas?

I also need wheel bearings and oil seals, fork oil seals and dust boots. Tall order, I know, but I need this stuff ASAP, and mikes ships RIGHT AWAY rather than waiting 'till next week like partsnmore.

The bloody clymer doesn't tell me what size everythign is, and I still can't get that durn CD to work. I'm not about to give up, but I'm kindof in a bind here - any advice?

    Thanks all.

    Knewsom,

Have you tried Dennis Kirk? Prices are higher, but they ship fast. Quickly looked and they have everything BUT the wheel bearings & seals.

BTW, the left side rear wheel bearing is ONLY available from Yamaha (or BikeBandit) Don't waste your time looking for it. Runs about $40. The other three bearings should price out at about $5-$6 each.

BikeBandit also has the wheel seals

        redemption!

Well guys, thanks so much for the support! 10 minutes after posting on the forum here, partsnmore send me an email saying they'd take care of this ASAP.

20 minutes later, I got ANOTHER email from them, and a replacement order is ON THE WAY!

In my eyes, fedex and partsnmore have been redeemed - now hopefully I'll get what I need before weekend after next!!!

Oh, and I figured out that mikesXS has wheel bearings and carb float bowl gaskets that'll work. I think I may try to compile a list of stuff on Mike's that works on the 78E.

Thanks for the tip on another great site - I may need Dennis Kirk eventually!

        Thanks again,
        Kristoffer

          BTW,

A while back I posted a list of carb parts that interchange between the XS400 and XS1100. It's not THE difinitive list, but may help some of you. Here:

luck is a beautiful thing... I am glad to see that they are treating you fair! I was gonna offer you use of my stock airbox and carb bowls(with gaskets attached), as I dont think I will be back together by then...
I have about 6 projects started on the house, I can tear into the carbs until I get the other two sides of the house painted... the last 4 planks of hardwood floor down (waiting on tile), the last 20 tiles in the kitchen (don't want to grout), or sodding the yard. ( I pulled two large trees from the front yard a few months ago, large holes remain.)
