I'd like to hear more about what you had to do to prep the carbs for paint. I have a set I'd like to do in black but I was thinking it might be too much trouble.

          Tony,

Of corse, the carbs have to come completely apart, but after that I just carb-dipped, degreased and painted.

The set I want to pain need to be dipped anyway so I'll do the black paint job at the same time.

BTW, how's the paint stand up to gas spills?

They do look good. As much as I like carb cleaner, they would have to stand up to that also (for me).

Randy, looks like socket head cap screws on those bowls?
Did you use the lock washers on them or doesn't it matter? I've noticed that those original washers actually don't come off the original screws well.

Must have been pretty fiddly work, painting those washers. Sure do look pretty underneath the screw heads though....

                            washers

                            Ken,

If those are 79sf carbs, I think those are the the aluminum pieces that keep the carbs in place on top (between 1&2, and 3&4). Microfiche calls them Upper Plates.

couldn't tell if you were joking about the washer thing or not.

                              Yamaniac,

Right you are, those are the upper plates! I assumed Ken was joking about the washers!

Now for those of you with nothing better to do, the first person who correctly guesses what those 'brass plugs' really are - - I'll send you a NOS dipstick!
