After sitting neglected in a corner for ages, here's an XS11 chain unit braced with steel sleeves and HT bolts and has 7 bolts that bolt to the engine case. Also it's got a 14 tooth sprocket and 530 chain to go with a Busa back sprocket. It's just about ready to slap on the bike, just need to tack the sleeves to the steel plate with a wire welder for convenience. Will show some pics when back on the bike.

Might want to consider a plate welded between the top two spacers to keep it from parallelagraming.

This chaindrive setup won't win any beauty contests at the moment but it goes well. Turns out the 14 & 45 sprocket combo is the same as the previous 13 & 40 gearing. Still taller than stock at 3700 revs@ 65 mph. You'd need a 48 or larger rear sprocket for lower than stock gearing. Lucky the Busa sprocket comes in a wide range of sizes. D.I.D chains don't have C clip joiner links in 530, but EK chains do. I tried an EK clip link but of course the pins were a minutely different diameter. The pin holes are impervious to drills or files Had to use a PITA rivet joiner. Not ridden this bike for a couple of months, and the power felt terrifying after such a long break! Bike cruises nice and smooth. Hopefully the spline shaft can handle it.

Just some more on this chaindrive thing, when really gassing the bike in 1st gear, it'll go clack clack sometimes. Now before, I was thinkin' ya' that's the chain skipping over the front sprocket. But that didn't quite make sense. Now, with a heavier gauge chain and sprockets, it'll still go clack clack full throttle 1st.
I thinkin' only a 16 or 17 tooth front is gonna work on an XS11. For that, you'd need to cut out an engine case and reweld in a dish shaped plate. But that didn't add up either, because heaps of grunty bikes use 14 - 15 tooth fronts.
Now, looking at the sprocket and chain - there ain't a cat in hells chance that chain is skipping the sprocket teeth. There's just no room. So now I'm slowly coming to the brilliant conclusion that luck has finally run out on avoiding a 1st and 2nd gear fix
In saying that, the bike still runs and cruises great. Not at full throttle 1st, where you need to smoothly apply the power. I'm guessing this bike's getting 120HP at the tyre or something stupid. Also realising lower gearing would be a handful. Anyway I'm sick of working on motors so I'm just gonna ride.

Still rambling on but funny enough this gearbox NEVER slipped out of 1st gear with shaftdrive, even with a gruntier than usual motor but immediately slipped with chaindrive. Explain that. You'd have thought the heavier shaftdrive would slip 1st gear easier, but the chaindrive is worse! Doesn't matter for now as 3rd gear full throttle is armwreching at higher speeds and a shiny seat lets ya' slide backwards on acceleration. (in jeans) Between 160kph - 180kph in 4th gear is the gearings sweet spot. Just hope the gearbox can handle it
