  • Got it all Ok except Cyl#4 is rich.

    Hi guys,

I'm still breaking in the XS1100 Special. She is doing quit OK but I have some sync. problems on the carbs.
All the readings with my vac. meters are showing the right sync. But Cylinder 4 is showing dark brown on the spark plug. All the others are pretty bright. (even after new plugs)

I interchanged jets, still the same. What could it be ???

I still though hear se misfiring, flapping spond when she is running at idle.

    Cheers,

    The Dutchy.

    Hey Dutchy,

I just went back to the member's Forum, and reviewed your previous threads. But you didn't provide much detail in what work you've done to your bike!?

What jets have you put on it, and what mods to intake and exhaust are present? But with 3 cylinders doing okay, and only 1 off color, it's probably the float height being just a little too high when right side up, so it's probably running a touch more rich than the others?? But could also be contamination from oil, either piston oil ring leakage, or valve seal??

I'm with T.C. on this one..........is all mechanical functions are up to 'snuff' then you have floats in that one carb that are too high. Can be a couple mm different than others..........doesn't take much to throw in a rich cond.

        #4 Carb

My experience with carbs would concur with motoman and TC.I was always told that the float heights had to be exactly the same height and to adjust you bend the "tang" supporting the float to adjust. To get them precise is no easy task and the bank of carbs have to be securely fixed level and are quite hard to get a reference point on all.Good luck on this. Thanks Guys,

I'll go over the carb rack (again) and adjust the floatlevels.

Thanks for all your input, by the way, the rack is still stock, stock jets, stock filterbox. Only thing that isn't stock is my 4 into 1 exhaust.
