  • Pics of TCI Replacement (for XS, not XJ)

here's some pics of my really down and dirty cheap tci replacement.

Take 2 hei modules (4 pin style), one Ford EDIS coil with pigtail of wires (could be any coil, really), add some connectors and the heat sink from a Pentium II computer.

Mix well with solder and 12volts.

Ok, here's what's cooking so far:

Here's a couple of other tidbits that you might like:

More pics of the injections (please excuse dirty bike):

A short video with no sound of what the fuel injection controls look like with the bike running and reving the engine up (2.5 megabytes):

the xj is harder because of the electronic advance. I'm still working on that...

Yep...that's cool. And I Love the pics of the UNI filters, Throttle Body, and braided fuel lines. I just returned from Alabama. All these posting inspired me to finish ... Stan

Here's a picture that I took last night of the spark. It's the HEI module pushing the Ford Coil getting it's signal from the Yamaha pickup coil (I calculated that this is running at about 10,000 RPM).

The more you show that stuff the more the geek in me perks.

Stop it dammit!! I don't need another project right now.

You're eventually going to win though. That FI setup is just too damn cool.

I keep envisioning something like this (hopefully even smaller) installed on my bike eventually, with a tank-mounted(?) small touch screen LCD up top and full cellular wireless, GPS, et. al. Would be an easy tie in to all the tuning stuff, too. There's some really nice small hardened PC's coming out in the industrial market right now.

        Yes, I know, crazy.

Curious to see how that TCI setup works out, too. Keep up the good work!

yeah a tiny computer would be nice - I'd like to have gauges available for air/fuel etc right there all the time.

I hope later this summer I can take it in for a dyno run - find out if the fuel injection did anything for it at all - I think seat of the pants it did, but I want it on paper.

I pulled my alternator apart the other day, went and looked at my spare motor missing the alternator rotor and started day dreaming about fitting on a tiny external alternator.

I did a bunch of research and found something called a "split taper bushing" that I could use to mount a pulley or sprocket (easily I think) to run the alternator.

I got into bed and was just about asleep when I realized that eaton superchargers are selling on ebay for around $200...hmmm....I've wanted to do a supercharger project (positive displacement type) for that awesome low end grunt. Can anybody say 2000cc's in an 1100cc package :-)

And man, if you think I come up with some crazy Do it yourself projects check this dude out:

Having your own foundry would be handy for those totally custom aluminum parts!
