  • New key

I did a search and heard the dealer can still get keys for my '80 xs by the number (4014) or a locksmith can make one.
Shawmut Hills yamaha told me he couldn't get a key anymore. He also had to ask me twice, in a doubtful voice, what kind of bike it was for. I don't think he ever heard of it. Was he full of it or is the dealer option history ? next, if I go to a locksmith, can he go by the number or do I need to take him the lock itself. And if thats the case can he do it from the helmet lock or do I need to pull the ignition switch ?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

    New Key

I was given a 79 XS1100SF with no key. I removed the ignition switch and took it to a locksmith. He found a blank cut 3 keys in 15 minutes for $15.00. With the ignition switch in his hands he made sure the keys were cut perfectly. I was told originally to use the key code on the switch. But, opted to have the locksmith work with the switch and make one trip.

Thanks Gene. I think I'll do the same. If I can find them that cheap it's not worth messing around
