Hey Webcraft, may I suggest you really go over things that some others have suggested before adding or changiny anything. My 81 Venturer having all the factory add-ons, including a rare color matched rear trunk which I put on a week after buying bike new, handles perfectly at any speed or slowing down. Have occassionaly twisted it to the 8grand, and who knows how fast that is with the 85mph odometor. It is still all original cept for Corbin tour seat, having all original suspension, braking(original brake lines, no SS) and now rolling on Metzlers(ME33 front, ME88 Marathon rear) handles as well as it did new. Not having a fork brace it will 'wag' a bit going past it's limit in corners, but hese bikes have there limits anyways. Total different technology than my Honda ST1100, and won't ever expect that kind of performance or handling from the XS. Guess the point I'm trying to make is what you have happening is not normal for these bikes in stock form, 25+ years old or othewise and you should really closely check all things others have suggested and not go changing components before doing that. In tour form, that's what they do reasonabley well, with the occassional 'blast'. If your're expecting more, then have the best all-around other bike(Honda ST1100 or Yamaha FJR1300). Expecting the XS to handle well at a 100+mph is spelling diasaster, specially in full-dress form! Just 2cents worth of wisdom.......trust me.
81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.
