  • safe start after a long sit ?

I saw one post recomended "miracle oil" ? in the cylinders ?I don"t think mines run for probably 2 years. I like the idea of hosing down the cylinders with oil before I spin the motor over. Anyone have a preference on what kind ? How much ? how long I should leave it sit and soak ? Any other warnings before I dive into it ?

What you are looking for is "Marvel Mystery Oil. Exlixer to all who work on mechanical things. Pull the plugs, couple of teaspoons down each cylinder, rotate engine and let sit for few hours. Pull the tank and drain it. Hopefully there won't be a bunch of rust in it. Flush it real good and refill with fresh gas. Pull the float bowls and spray carb cleaner up into the carbs, clean the bowls. Drain the engine oil, change the filter and refill. Charge the battery. Install new spark plugs. Turn the petcocks to "prime", wait about 30 seconds and hit the button with the choke on, Hopefully she will fire up. After two years, you might be looking at carb overhauls, morso if it sat with untreated fuel in the tank. If it runs and will idle right, let it warm up a bit. Hang onto the front brake when you snick 'er in gear, cluch plate could be stuck after that long and she will want to "leap"into action. Cruise around easy for a few blocks. Pay attention to the brake action, after sitting you might get a caliper to hang up, not good, easy fix though. Should you be lucky enough that it runs well, brakes dont hang up, and it will run thru the gears with no real funny noises, give thanks to the scooter gods . Read all the Tech tips on maint and repair. Ya got some more oil to change (mid and final gearcase), forkoil is most likely junk, brake fluid, same thing. Don't dispair, everthing you need to know is on this site . Oh, and welcome

Forgot, clean or replace the air filter, put the petcocks back in the "run" position.
