I have a 1980 Yamaha XS1100 Special I am not getting any spark from the coil that is for cylinder 1 and 4 I have tried two sets of coils and I have the same problem with both. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

I would suggest reading the tech/maintence tips about checking the pickup coil wires. Sounds like that is your problem.

      loose wire

could also be a loose wire to the 1 & 4 coil wire where it plugs into the harness undernearth the gas tank. they get galvanic corrosion I have found....chop

I have checked all of my coil wire connections and they are fine.

Check the connections on the ignitor unit as well. I Though i had a bad one and unplugged and replugged my unit's connections and it fired right up.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me where the plugins are located for the ignitor unit.

The TCI unit is under the seat. It's the rectangular module there.

Had that same problem when I first fired mine up too. It wouldn't hurt for you to go through all the electrical connections on the bike one by one as you get the time and spray them with a contact cleaner. It really works wonders!

Todd, check out the posts on page two of "RUNNING BAD", by Osmosis. He switched the wires going to the coils to find out if the coils were good. (You swapped in other coils to do the same thing.) Your coils seem to be good. Swap the leads from the ignition pick-up coils to the TCI box to see which of these are faulty.
