new grips don't cover throttle sleeve

i haven't changed grips on bikes for years and don't recall the sleeve to be so lumpy with ridges and and hard to slip over head with four protuberances.

i did remove a cruise control, i don't think the sleeve is part of the cruise,

i looked at mikexs and while the picture was a little over exposed, i could barely see ridges and the like.

i'm assuming this is stock, but i bought stock grips from mike's xs, and they are 1/2" short of covering the sleeve completely, i did notice one the the grips was shorter,must be quality control, again i'm assuming the throttle grip is shorter make a maginal situation bad.

regardless, is it safe for me to saw off the end to help butt the end of the grip to the throttle housing?

I would put the throtle lock back on there mason, and that might make up your distance that you need. I would assume you would be safe though to chop the end off...but I have had a beer or two, and you know what that means...GET R' DONE!!!

Hey Mason,

Here are the parts numbers for the XS11 grips and the XS650:

79xs11 2H7-26241-00-00 GRIP, LEFT
79XS650 2H7-26241-00-00 GRIP (L.H)

650:2H7-26240-00-00 GRIP ASS'Y, RIGHT
650:2H7-26240-00-00 GRIP ASS'Y (R.H.)

As you can see, they are identical, so you probably need to put the LONGER one on the throttle grip, and use some HAIRSPRAY on the inside of the grip before trying to put it on, that way it will slide on easier and ALL THE WAY UP, and will stay there once the hair spray dries!

thanks topcat, oh my god, i was reading your dremel repair, flipping the bike over, i thought i had an open mind and allowed as much in as possble, but that was some real brain candy, thanks for the thrill,didn't mean to get of track but...

the hole on the grips differ and the bighole one is too big for the left side, so i'm asumming, you think the sleeve is original, now what? do i have a gripe with mike's?

btw, your fuse block came today and i think it's military grade thanks a mil

Here's a photo of the throttle sleeve as per MikesXS:

It's pretty long and lumpy!

It's been a long time since I had to take off my old OEM grips, or try to put them on, but I remember how they seemed to compress, as well as stretch, and that I had to pull and pull to get it to stretch up to the control end of the sleeve, but they would fit! So..I don't think the ones you got are defective, but I could be wrong!?

yes that was the picture i was looking at and i just measure the grips
4.5" for the one with the big hole and 4.75" for the other one with the little hole, guess i'll contact the seller asap

i tried to push and pull as far as it will go, just a little short like me, but i could live with me...
