  • K&L Pilots?

i have an 80 carb on my bench. i'm talking about the pilot jets, the other carbs i have seen have the metering hole on the opposite end from the screw driver slot. these pilot jets have the metering hole on the same end as the screw driver slot. are these K&L or Mikuni? how can you tell K&L? is the little square within a square Mikuni trade mark? these do have that.

    The "Hole" theory!

    Hey Red,

Can't help you with the logo differentiating, but if you'll look at this photo, you'll see the pilot jet....."C" in the lower left corner.

The thing to note is that it has holes in the side of it, only 1 is showing, but they usually have 6 or so. The ones that are not recommended for our bikes do NOT have holes in their sides!

There was a big discussion and thread that found that the XJ's possibly came stock with the NO HOLES jets, but essentially ALL of the XS11's used the ones with holes, and the NO HOLES is what creates the overly rich condition with the K&L kits, so that they are not necessarily the wrong sizes, but the wrong STYLE!

So....make sure to get pilots with the holes in their sides, and you should be good to go!

        Okay,
Take a look at this diagram from MikesXS. Our carbs take the BS30/96 style which is the metering at the end of the jet! I just checked the ones in my parts bin, and they have 6 holes!
