There were hyperlinks in the origional story I put on another list, but i am too tired (and a bit lazy) to fix them all now. sorry.
So my alarm went off at 8am Wednesday, and I got ready like any day I had to be at work at 9. Which is to say, I hit the snooze until 830, realized i needed to be up already, and ran to the shower. I wanted to be on the road by 9, but that just was never gonna happen.
So, up, showered, and packed,I decided to check the weather before leaving. Ugh, 42. At least it was not raining. I carried everything out to the bike. I have 2, the one I was taking I call "Suffering," a '81 standard. The other one is "Misery," an '80 special.
Everything loaded,, I headed out to get some gas. This is the view I would have for the next 7 hours or so. At least I had a radio. Once on the road, I took I-94 to US-16, and turned north. It started to rain, and was a bit colder than I thought, so I stopped to put my coat liner in, and some warmer gloves. While I was there, I was attacked by a killer attack Dog. Lucky for me, his owner came out right away or I could've lost an ankle.
Riding on. While i would, eventually, reach some nice areas, I had to get through the SE of Wisconsin, which is flat, flat, flat.. I did see the horror of an Ent Concentration Camp, and looked for some picketers or something, but it seems no one cared. Out side of Columbus, I found this statue, proudly annoucing that America had been found, along with all the people here already. Good thing, too.
I stopped in The Wisconsin Dells for lunch (mmm Rocky Rococo's). This is really pretty country, not that you can tell in this little town. There are a lot of good fudge places though. Once I got back on the road, I saw a lot of Better views. I also switched from 16 to Hwy 12, which I would follow until I ran out of time later and got back on the Interstate.
Leaving the Dells, I entered some low-lands, with little lakes everywhere. 12 headed mostly west (and warmed up too), until turning north near a town called tomah. Tomah has a playground with one of these in it. So much for video games making kids violent. While I was in the playground, I saw this fine looking bike, and decided to take a picture. (That is my bike, btw)
Headed North again, from tomah, I got back into a nicer part of the state, where long ago some big blocks ice failed to flatten everything out. There is a name for it, but I forget. Still, the hills, nicer looking roads, and places where I can have fun. I found this nice little spot, took a break to drink some water and wander around some. By "water" I mean Coke, but water sounds healthier, and that might be important.
Back on the road, I found a Smokey the Bear sign, which I have not seen since I was in grade school. It was Moderate on the way there, and Low on the way home. Not much after this picture, I had to get on the interstate, since I wanted to be in River Falls (Where the SO was) by 5, and was running out of time.
Made it up there just fine. We were going to go to the Mall of America wednesday night, but she had to study so we stayed local and went to applebees for dinner. Thursday, I did go to the mall, since I wanted some Alapaca fur, and there is a store there that sells it. Thursday was very cold (33) and very rainy (1 and 1/2 inches over the 24 hours). It was not the greatest for riding, and I was too cold to take pictures.
Thursday afternoon the SOs parents came up, and we moved her out. In the rain. And cold. Fun fun. Then we went looking for dinner. Waiting for the Domino's she didn't even want, and she will kill me when she knows that pic is online. Hee hee
On the way home, I saw this little sign. we didn't have time to go shopping, and no room anyway. Sad, really.
