  • Warm Springs, GA - FDR's Little White House

    XS Folks,
About 60 miles south of ATL is Warm Springs, GA. This is a very popular place for bikers. The roads are; nice & smooth, a little curvy here & there, some nice straightaways, and mostly clear of any traffic. In the town there is a little village basically dedicated to bikers with a nice little eating joint, a biker store (mostly HD stuff), and a Motorcycle Museum (about 50 bikes). All throughout this little "biker town" there are overflow bikes that wouldn't fit in the little museum. Among the samples is... you guessed it.....an XS11 Midnight Special

The little town is full of little buildings full of antique bikes, old signs, etc.

The restaurant serves some great homemade burgers and fresh cut fries.

The place was full for lunch today!

My XS11 looked like a fish out of water basically surrounded by HD's

There were some really nice looking Harleys but I didn't was the XS11 to get too close to them or she might catch something bad and start leaking oil they were - LOL LOL LOL

Obviously, the big attraction in the town is FDR's Little White House Museum not the Biker Village. My wife & I've been in there several times so we just grabbed a shot at the entrance and headed back toward ATL.

It's a really nice ride from any of the surrounding areas. We went about 15 -20 miles a couple times during the 90 miles round trip without seeing another car...... NICE!

This was our first ride together on the XS and we're looking forward to MORE! It's also the longest yet on my 11 and my confidence is building in this bike!

    Sincerely,
    Kurt & Nancy.

      Way to go, Kurt!

The odometer on that 'Special was at 14883, that's probably when it got traded for a Sporty. Hey, even the Harley pictures look great and I'm glad both of you had a good ride!

              Went back again this week...

              XS Folks,

I know it's repetitive but we went back down to Warm Springs again this week. This time we have HD Mufflers and the ride was much more enjoyable. We also stopped at the oldest and longest covered bridge in Georgia. A little bumpy driving across but still fun. I know ya'll like photos (especially of bikes) so here's a few more..... Great place if you're in the area and want to see a bunch of Harleys At least today there was ONE other non-HD. It was a Valkerie and I don't think I have a pic....

Actually.... The Valkerie made it into this shot....

I had to drag the ole' ball & chain along for the ride....

Here's a photo I took of MaximPhil at that bridge several years ago. Him on a XJ650 and me on a XS650. It was a memorable day.

                      Warm Springs Continuation... PINE MOUNTAIN

                      XS Folks,
This is sort of a continuation of a Warm Springs ride.....

A friend a work asked why I hadn't continued on to Pine Mountain as it's an absolute necessity if you go to Warm Springs.

Following GA Highway 85 just a couple miles past FDR's Little White House is the entrance to FDR State Park/Pine Mountain Road. The road is approx. 13 miles long and ends at Calloway Gardens. I had no idea!

It's a very nice and a little TWISTY road through the Mid-Georgia Mountains. There are a number of scenic overlooks (a couple pics below). We met a pair of Harley couples and the guys were really Lovin' on my XS11. For a minute there I was expecting one of them to ask if it was for sale. Finally managed to get a pic of me and SWMBO with our XS11.

If going anywhere near Warm Springs don't miss the ride through FDR Park and Pine Mountain!

Pretty crappy video but it was Nancy's first attempt from the back seat.http://vid1353.photobucket.com/album...psblfpu487.mp4

Monument to the Men of the CCC from the 1930's who built the park.
