No DuWayne, Silverback wasn't there so don't get jealous. NH

I think Tod isn't telling everything. Probably had too many of those fruity drinks with the little umbrella and woke up next to one of the BIG cabana boys.

Awesome ride report Tod. Too bad I had to be a jackass and break myself the week before we left. LOL. Hopefully next time.

Marty and I were discussing this a couple weeks ago. I've changed odometers a couple times, so I really don't know, but I average @ 25-30k miles a year and I think this is going on the 6th year since rebuild. So.. somewhere between 100k and 180k? lol. Enough to where I think Shinko owes me a thank you note at Christmas...

Well....good thing that doesn't include me...

Gee, ya 'ole leadwrist... yer gonna have to take it easy on the 'ole girl!
(And no, I'm not talking about Tammy...)

Glad you made it home safe, and it didn't implode on you on the side of the road. That would've really put a damper on an otherwise great trip!
Sorry to hear your bike started running rough, hopefully it's something minor.

I've got a couple that turn over but have not been run, one has a click in the top end like a sticky valve hitting a piston. Both have been painted black and look like crap.

    Take your pick......

It never did rain, so I don't know about the waterproof part of it now that I sealed the sole with clear silicone. But as soon as I got to Key West, the boots went in the corner for sandals, so no idea about how they handled the surf, and the more the merrier in bars, so why kick people out of 'em?

The fuel range of a Maxim at 100 mph is about 80-90 miles... when riding with a Special. lol. Honestly, speed didn't seem to matter. I got about 32-35 mpg whether 45 or 105.

And yeah, Greg, can I have one of your motors? I'm starting to think the motor issue may be carb related. Seemed to get better after a couple cans of Berrymans through it, so I may take them (The carbs) off, do a good cleaning and synch, then take it for a ride and see if it's still doing it. If so, I'll do a quick disect of the motor and check things out. I've got another one on the workbench I can slap back together and throw in there to get me by... unless Greg gives me one.

    Hi Tod,
Thanks for a great report about your ride. I guess we don't get pictures of the 1000 mile day
What is the fuel range of an XJ at 100mph

    Way to go!

Awesome ride, Tod, I liked the boot review!

Now that you're back home how did they work for you out on the road/wading through surf/clearing drunks from bars?

Odometer says just over a thousand miles for the day, but maps say I'm a few miles short. Left Key West this morning, sitting in D'lberville, Mississippi, however you pronounce that. Still over 600 miles to the house, but should make it tomorrow. Motor doesn't sound right. I think I ruined another one. Sounds kinda like a piston slap, but think maybe a wrist pin or con rod bearing. Down on power and #3 or #4 isn't firing right. Hardly any blow-by out of the vent tube, so not a burnt piston. Riding all day waiting for it to lock up the motor and have to grab a handful of clutch, so that's a bit nerve racking after a whole day of that. Oh well, at least I'm close enough now for someone to come get me in a worst case. Good thing I know a guy that has a spare motor or 6.

Dang, Tod! Missed out on another good one!

I dig those shirts... The "people person" one is perfect for ya...

Cool pics. Looks like a great trip.

Can't believe Your bike's went that far on fuel!
Guess if we ever go back out west, we just need to slow down?

Naaahhhhh.... Not gonna happen. Bring more fuel!

I've also noticed a common trend in your posting....
You're always headed out to go eat.
Maybe that extra 50 lbs is attached, hmmmnnn? Lol

Say hi ta Bob for me... And you guys come home safe.
Thanks for the pics. Gotta go there sometime.
